
Monica Bello

She is a curator and art historian. Her work has focused on the intersections between disciplines and the encounter between culture, science and society. Since 2015, she has been the director of Arts at CERN, the art programme of the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, CERN, in Geneva. At CERN, she directs and designs the art programmes, and is responsible for the artistic residencies, the artistic commissions that arise from them, and the exhibitions.
She is currently curating the inaugural exhibition at CERN Science Gateway, featuring new work by Julius von Bismark, Chloé Delarue, Ryoji Ikeda and Yunchul Kim, all of whom are associated with residencies at CERN. She has been a guest curator for the Dark Matters exhibition at Science Gallery Melbourne. In 2022 she curated the Icelandic Pavilion for the Venice Biennale represented by artist Sigurður Guðjónsson. In 2018 she was a guest curator for the prestigious Audemars Piguet Art Commission, which was presented at Art Basel with the British duo Semiconductor.
Before coming to Switzerland, she held the position of artistic director of VIDA at Fundación Telefónica, Madrid, a pioneering award that encouraged expressions around the notion of life. She initiated and directed the education department of Laboral Centro de Arte, Gijón. She has curated exhibitions, events and publications internationally, supporting creators and researchers from different fields of science and art. Bello sits on advisory committees in Spain, Switzerland and internationally.
