Maurice Benayoun at PresenteContinuo.org
The French artist visited Buenos Aires as part of the program. During his visit, he gave a workshop for 35 artists, technologists and scientists from all over the country who were selected from a federal call for applications in which more than 80 applications were received.
During the training, the artist presented a tour of his works up to his most recent productions made with algorithms and artificial intelligence. His broad tour allowed him to explore the way in which his works are associated with different media: video, computer graphics, immersive virtual reality, the Internet, performance, 3D printing, large-scale art installations in urban spaces and interactive exhibitions.
After the presentation, participants met in groups to work on project exercises based on topics proposed by Benayoun, the axes of which were: behavioral design, generative art; artificial intelligence; transactional art; electroencephalography (how to make sense of brain waves in artistic creation); robotics and art in public space. They then made a collective presentation where they received feedback of the proposals.
On the third day, Benayoun dictated a masterclass open to the public where he presented his most recent works, attended by students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the UBA, artists and experts on the subject.
His visit was the beginning of the program, which seeks to create a space for training with artists from all over the country and to address new issues in these fields of study. Throughout this year, in addition to Benayoun's visit, the Brazilian artist and researcher Guto Nóbrega and the Mexican-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano Hemmer will come to Buenos Aires.
